What Cut of Steak is Best for This Recipe?
Sirloin is best for this recipe, but you can also use rib eye, tenderloin, or New York strip. You'll want a thick, tender cut of steak that's about 1 ¼ - 1 ½ pounds in size.
How to Make Garlic Butter Steak Bites
Step 1: Cook The Steak
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Dab the steak with a paper towel to remove any moisture (this will help it sear). Add the steak to the skillet in a single layer (cook in batches if necessary), and cook 4 - 5 minutes, stirring to brown on all sides. Drain any excess grease.
PRO TIP: Use a large skillet that's at least 10" in size to cook your steak bites. You can use a cast iron skillet (this one is recommended and will last for years: All-Purpose Cast Iron Skillet!) or a regular/non-stick pan.
Step 2: Add Butter & Garlic
Reduce the heat to low and add the butter and garlic to the pan. As the butter melts, stir it into the steak. Cook for 1 - 2 more minutes, until the steak is coated in the butter.
Step 3: Enjoy!
Serve immediately, optionally topped with chopped parsley and more salt & pepper to taste.
How to Cut Steak for Garlic Steak Bites
Cut your steak against the grain (here's a video so that you can also see how to do this visually) and into bite-sized cubes (about an 1" or a little larger). Cutting steak agains the grain helps keep meat tender when cooked.
How to Serve Garlic Steak Bites
These steak bites are best served with a simple vegetable side. Our go-to is small roasted potatoes (red or golden potatoes). To cook these, simply toss them in 2 tablespoons olive oil, salt & pepper and then cook at 425 for 25 - 30 minutes, flipping halfway (or until tender).
